Psalm 5

Psalm 5 Commentary

by Brad Boyles

In the morning, O LORD, You will hear my voice; In the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch.

Psalms 5:3 NASB

It’s easy to tell God what we want, but how often do we wait and watch eagerly for His response. I admit that I tend to throw out prayer requests and then let them go as I check them from my mental list. Shamefully, sometimes I know that I don’t even notice when God answers. But David’s plea is to watch for the Lord to move and work in those requests. Furthermore, there is an eagerness that should take place as we wait. This is hard.

Many times, God does not work in the way we want Him to. He takes longer than we would like. Often, His steps are calculated in a way to grow us and make us whole. However, this should not change the fact that we can still watch eagerly to see how He works in a situation. Many times the way He works out a prayer is better than what we even asked for!

Do you start your days with prayer, and then eagerly wait and watch to see how those requests play out through the day? Do you even notice when God answers them?

Think about your day today. What seems overwhelming to you? What seems impossible? Where can you  pray for truth in a situation and wait with expectation for an answer?
