My Help Comes from the Lord
A Song of Ascents.
121 I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?
My help comes from the LORD,
who made heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.
Behold, he who keeps Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD is your keeper;
the LORD is your shade on your right hand.
The sun shall not strike you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The LORD will keep you from all evil;
he will keep your life.
The LORD will keep
your going out and your coming in
from this time forth and forevermore.

Psalm 121 Commentary
by Brad Boyles
The Lord is our protector. He is our strength and our refuge. He fights our battles. He does not sleep or slumber. He sees and knows all. He will protect His children now and forever. Psalm 121 speaks beautifully to what God is over. Many times, we try and take these experiences into our own hands. We try and defend something that is clearly His. We try and control circumstances when He has given clear warning. We strive against things that are being held in His sovereignty.
GOD’s your Guardian, right at your side to protect you— 6 Shielding you from sunstroke, sheltering you from moonstroke. 7 GOD guards you from every evil, he guards your very life. 8 He guards you when you leave and when you return, he guards you now, he guards you always.
Psalms 121:5-8 MSG
God is complete in his protection. He will protect from the false dismantling the enemy seeks to accomplish. Every attack is seen beforehand by our God. He will sometimes allow us to suffer in order to bring about a greater work in us and through us. This is where our attitude toward Him needs to be full of trust and peace. If He has promised to protect us, then any trial we endure for His Name will prove to only make us more joyful and steady in our relationship with Him. When we are not satisfied in Him is when we begin to stray away and try to control what is not ours. Let Him be glorified in your obedience.
