Numbers 29 Commentary

by Brad Boyles

The feasts we read here are the fall feasts. Many people believe that these speak toward prophecies yet to be fulfilled by Jesus.

Feast of the Trumpets – This is the first of the fall feasts. Some today believe it represents the Rapture of the Church when Jesus will come and take His bride from this Earth. The passages that are traditionally assigned to the Rapture (1 Thess 4:13-18 & 1 Cor 15:52) are typically associated with the blowing of a loud trumpet.

Day of Atonement – Scholars believe this day points to the Second Coming. The Day of Atonement will most likely be a time when the Jewish remnant will have their eyes opened to Jesus and eventually receive Him as their Messiah. This prophecy is found in Zech 12:10 and Romans 11.

Feast of the Booths – This feast is associated with the Lord’s promise to once again “tabernacle” with His people as He returns forever to reign over the world.

Through the study of these feasts, Christians today can gain an appreciation of the promises of Christ. Ultimately, God established these feasts to put His Name at the forefront of the people’s minds and hearts. This should be our motive today as well.
