If any of it is eaten on the third day, God will not accept your offering. The offering will not be counted to your credit but will be considered unclean, and whoever eats it will suffer the consequences.
Leviticus 7:18 GNB
I think sometimes in our walk with Christ we are tempted to fall into a lazy state where we know Jesus will “cover” our neglect of the details. Sometimes it’s more appealing to just do the bare minimum. In an attempt to be relevant to the culture it is possible to skimp on “old-fashioned” details such as reverence, awe, and respect.
But this passage in Leviticus shows us that God takes the details very seriously. He does not take pleasure in commanding something that’s executed in a half-hearted manner. In fact, Jesus commanded that we worship the Lord in spirit and in truth. Although we probably won’t admit it, sometimes being “Spirit-led” is just an excuse for a lack of preparation.
Divine, authentic worship demands care and attention to detail. If Jesus is more important than anyone else in our life, then He should get more respect than anyone else in our life. We should be more concerned with letting Him down than anyone else and the details He speaks of should flood our minds.
Let us be thankful, then, because we receive a kingdom that cannot be shaken. Let us be grateful and worship God in a way that will please him, with reverence and awe; 29 because our God is indeed a destroying fire.
