Hebrews 10

Hebrews 10

Hebrews 10 Commentary

by Brad Boyles

If you are tracking with the author of Hebrews thus far, it may seem overwhelmingly theological. The second half of Hebrews 10 is a practical response to the foundation that has been established thus far. It is designed to answer the question, “So what?”

We can now enter the sanctuary through the blood of Jesus. He has opened a new way for us by tearing the veil between us and God. Just as the high priest would enter the sanctuary and pass through the veil to meet with God, now we can do the same by the blood and flesh of Christ. Jesus is our High Priest, so because of that fact…

So let us come near to God with a sincere heart and a sure faith, with hearts that have been purified from a guilty conscience and with bodies washed with clean water. 23 Let us hold on firmly to the hope we profess, because we can trust God to keep his promise. 24 Let us be concerned for one another, to help one another to show love and to do good. 25 Let us not give up the habit of meeting together, as some are doing. Instead, let us encourage one another all the more, since you see that the Day of the Lord is coming nearer.

Hebrews 10:22-25 GNB

If we really understand what Christ has done, the natural response is to draw near.

Come with a sincere heart and a sure faith. This is not always easy. We are sinners saved by grace. We still screw up every single day. However, that is exactly the type of posture Jesus desires from us. He wants a sincere, authentic heart that comes to Him without an ulterior motive. We can come confidently knowing that our High Priest has gone before us.

Hold firm to the hope we profess. The reason we can hold firm is because God always delivers on His promises.

Be concerned for one another and meet together regularly. God did not create us to function primarily individually. He created us to be a part of His body and we can only do that when we care for each other and meet regularly.

Finally, we know that the Day of the Lord is coming soon! We are moments away from being with Jesus for eternity!
