“But can you, O God, really live on earth among men and women? Not even all of heaven is large enough to hold you, so how can this Temple that I have built be large enough?

2 Chronicles 6:18 GNB

This is a fascinating statement from Solomon. Can you really live on earth among men and women? Though Solomon is talking about God’s presence within the temple, there is certainly some foreshadowing with both Jesus and the Holy Spirit. The statement reiterates the amazing feat of God placing His Divine Son in a human body and sending Him to live among us.

Why is this important? Solomon’s statement alone exemplifies the baffling thought that God would actually come down and live among us. It’s unbelievable. So, for us, we can’t let the thought of Jesus become familiar and routine. Not only did He come down, but He was born in the most humble way. He served the lost and the forgotten. He called out the religious elite and He gave His own life up. If it was inconceivable for Solomon and his people to believe God would come down to us, think about His decision to willingly die in the most humiliating way!

If it was inconceivable for Solomon and his people to believe God would come down to us, think about God’s decision to willingly die in the most humiliating way! The point is simple. Don’t let this amazing truth become casual. The Word literally became flesh and walked among us, died for us, and then resurrected to defeat sin and death.
