1 Chronicles 6

1 Chronicles 6

1 Chronicles 6 Commentary

One particular name that sticks out in this chapter is Hilkiah. An unknown to most people, this high priest played a huge role in three major events during Israel’s history.

In 2 Kings 22, this high priest located the lost Book of the Law. This was important for many reasons. During the reign of King Josiah, the nation was ready to turn back to God, but they needed a strong leader. Upon finding this book, the king remembered how far the nation had fallen away from its statutes. He decided to recommit to obedience.

In 2 Kings 23, he joined with Josiah in reforming the nation by burning the false idols that had plagued them for so many years.

Though Josiah is a pretty well-known man, no one ever talks about Hilkiah. However, he filled an important role during a time when Josiah needed support to change the rebellion of Israel. Through their partnership, they joined a reformation that would steer the people back to the Lord.

This is the same today. Though some in the church will get the recognition for being the “face” of the ministry, there is no ministry that can function as a one-man army. The apostle Paul had a team surrounding him. The early apostles did too. Each one of us has an integral role in the functioning body of Jesus Christ.
