1 Chronicles 24 Commentary
by Brad Boyles
There is a fine line between structure and freedom in the Spirit. This chapter speaks to the structured process of the priesthood while attempting to preserve true worship and the influence of the Holy Spirit.
Today, there is no physical temple but rather the temple of the Holy Spirit living in each one of us.
“Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.”
1 Corinthians 3:16-17 ESV
In light of this verse, I believe there is a crossover between the characteristics of the physical temple and our bodies as the temple of the Holy Spirit.
- Solomon would build a beautiful and magnificent temple. Our bodies are beautiful and magnificent creations.
- The priests were assigned duties to preserve the temple and lead others to the worship of God. Our bodies are designed to carry Christ’s message and our duty as his servants is to lead people to the worship of Jesus Christ.
- Each priest played a different role in the preservation of God’s temple. As members of the body of Christ, each one of us plays an essential role in His kingdom.
